Karon was to turn 50 and I wanted to do something special for her as a surprise, so I phoned her boss to book a few days off without her knowing, booked a nice hotel in the centre of Paris and booked the train to get there. We left Basingstoke on the 10.17am to Waterloo and a couple of hours later were on the Eurostar from King’s Cross to La Gare du Nord, Paris.
